Using Keepers

Setting Up Keepers

  • Should I use the same email address for all devices?

Yes, all devices you want to use under your account should be registered under the same email and password.

  • Why can't I see my child device after installing the child app?

There are 2 main possibilities for not seeing your child’s device after successfully installing the child app:

    • Please refresh your parent’s app by completely closing the app from the background and restart your phone.
    • If the problem persists after performing the steps mentioned above, you might have used different email addresses on your device and your child’s device. To fix the problem mentioned, use the account you’ve created on your child’s device and login into that account on your device. If the issue persists, contact our support team at info@keeperschildsafety.net

  • Why is the child’s birth date necessary?
    • Due to international privacy laws, we’re not allowed to collect information about children over 16.
    • Our message monitoring system has different levels of offensiveness for other age groups to make sure Keepers will only alert you about relevant information.
  • How can I reset my account’s password?

To reset your account’s password, open Keepers (if you’re still connected to the account on the device, you will need to log out first through your profile), enter your email address, and choose “Forgot your password?”. An email with further instructions will be sent to your email.

Message Monitoring

  • What words will be considered offensive?

Our message monitoring system is based on an advanced NLP mechanism. This type of technology can recognize offensive texts. The system is constantly updating itself to stay relevant and keep track of the newest terminologies. When an offensive word is identified in a text, an alert will be sent to you and appear inside the app.

*Note this feature is only supported for children with Android devices.

  • Which social apps Keepers can scan for offensive messages?

We’re currently monitoring the following platforms:

    • Whatsapp
    • Telegram
    • Viber
    • Youtube
    • VK
    • Instagram
    • Snapchat
    • Line
    • Kik
    • TikTok
  • Why am I receiving notifications about old messages?

Keepers check messages only after the child views them. Therefore if your child opens an old message that’s considered an offensive message and it was never scanned by the app before, we will send you a notification with the original messages’ even if it was sent a long time ago.

  • Why is the text monitoring not working on my child’s device?

There could be several reasons why you can't see messages from your child device:

    • Your child uses an iOS device where message monitoring is currently not supported (for supported features, see My child is using an iPhone. Can I use Keepers?)
    • The message monitoring feature requires you to enable the Accessibility permission for Keepers on your child’s device. Please go to the built-in settings app on your child's device -> Accessibility -> Scroll to the bottom of the screen -> choose Keepers and enable the permission.
    • Your child might not have any messages that Keepers recognizes as offensive on their device, and because of that, you do not see any message alerts on your device.

If you are convinced your child receives offensive messages that you aren’t alerted of even after performing the steps mentioned above, contact our support team at support@keeperschildsafety.net.

App Restrictions

  • What are app restrictions?

With app restrictions, you can decide on times where your children will not have access to chosen apps installed on their phones so they can focus on their school work or getting a good night’s sleep.

*Note this feature is only supported for children with Android devices.

  • How do I set rules which will restrict apps on my child’s phone automatically?

On your parent’s app, go to the protect screen (choose the middle option at the bottom of the screen), then choose “app restrictions” (1st option), choose “setup” for the blocking period you want to activate, inside the rule settings you can set the time and days of the week the restriction will be applied for, choose up to 2 breaks where all apps are not restricted, and choose which apps will be restricted. Please make sure to choose apps you want Keepers to block for the restriction to work, and when you're done, click on “done” so the rule will be updated.

  • Why is the app blocking not working on my child’s Xiaomi device?

To block apps on Xiaomi devices, additional permission is required: Please go to the built-in settings app on your child’s Xiaomi -> Apps -> Permissions -> Other permissions -> Display popup windows while running in the background -> Accept.

Downtime

Location

  • Why can't I see my child’s location?

The location tracking feature requires an active location permission and location services. Please make sure your child didn’t disable the location services or the location permission.

  • What are zones?

Zones lets you set up safe and unsafe zones and receive a notification when your child enters and leaves them.

  • How do I set up safe and unsafe zones?

To set up safe/unsafe zones, open your app (parents’ app), go to the protect screen and choose “location,” then choose a location on the map and tap and hold at the center of your desired zone until you see a message letting you set up the zone.

Each time your child will enter/exit the zones you set up, you’ll receive a notification to your device.

Uninstallation Prevention

  • Can my child uninstall Keepers on their own?

The child cannot uninstall Keepers in the Android version. As part of the setting process on the child’s device, you will activate uninstallation prevention that will prevent the child from uninstalling Keepers so that you can have peace of mind while we will protect your children as long as you want us to. If somehow your child can delete Keepers/disconnect any of the permissions, you will receive an alert immediately with instructions inside the child’s app on how to fix the disconnected permission.

  • How can I uninstall Keepers if I want to?

To uninstall Keepers, you need the secret code shown on your parent app under the settings menu. Use this secret code to disable the app on your child’s device, then you will be able to remove Keepers from your child’s device completely.

To transfer your child’s account to the new device, all you need to do is download Keepers to the new device, open the app and use your account’s email address, choose “Child Device,” then select “Yes” under the question “Your child used Keepers before?” and enter the exact name as you’ve entered it when setting up the account (you can find it in your parent app in the profile section).
